Frequently Asked Questions

Why Soy Wax ?

Most candles found in supermarkets or bath & body stores are made with Paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum. Petroleum is a nonrenewable source that contains carcinogenic substances which are harmful to our bodies. Unlike Paraffin wax, 100 % Soy wax has many environmental and health benefits. Some of the benefits include:

  • It’s Natural – Unlike paraffin, which is derived from petroleum (a refined a gasoline product), soy is made from soy beans which makes it a natural, renewable resource – Our wax is grown in the USA.
  • Longer Burn Time – Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax. This means that soy wax burns cooler and will last longer than paraffin candles.
  • Biodegradable – Since soybeans are a vegetable, soy wax is naturally biodegradable. This makes accidental spills easier to clean up with just warm water and soap.
  • Burns Cleaner – Soy wax is petro soot free so it won’t release any toxins into the air as it burns.

Candle Care tips

To ensure you receive the most out of your burn time, you’ll need to follow these tips:

  • Keep your candle on a heat-resistant surface and away from kids/pets/drafts/flammable objects!
  • When burning your candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt until it reaches the edges of your jar before extinguishing otherwise your candle will not burn evenly the next time you light it.
  • For optimal burn, keep your wood wick trimmed to about 1/8 “, and clean off any burnt wood from previous use.
  • Never leave your candle burning longer than 3-4 hours at a time.
  • Discontinue use of a candle when 1/2 ” of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.

Why does my candle have an uneven, rough, or frosted top after burning?

We use 100% Soy Wax with no added dyes, chemicals or petroleum based waxes. Because of the natural properties of soy wax, you may notice an uneven top after your first burn. Don’t worry, this does not affect the scent throw or burning properties of the candles at all! This is actually a natural characteristic of soy wax and is a testament to the lack of paraffin and preservatives in soy candles. Often, candles that are marketed as “soy”  or “soy blend” actually contain a blend of paraffin  to create a smooth top. Paraffin wax is petroleum-based and has been shown to contain carcinogenic compounds. So, take your rough candle top as a reminder that you are safely breathing in a CLEAN burning candle!

Common issues with Soy Candles

Sweating:

If you notice that your candle is “sweating”, it may be due to changes in temperature. Grand Cayman is HOT! So make sure to store your candles in a cool place to avoid this from happening. If it does begin to sweat, you can simply dab it with a paper towel and then burn as usual!

“Wet Spots” and “Frosting” :

You may notice what appears to be “wet spots” on your candle, as well as what looks like frost- these are not flaws in the candles. These can appear during the candle making process or even after due to changes in temperature. (Our HOT weather!) We will never send out a candle with major frosting or wet spots, but we have no control over what occurs in transit or after being exposed to the weather during craft markets.  Rest assured that frosting or wet spots do not affect the scent throw or burning properties of the candles. You can safely burn a candle with these properties without worry. Wet spots are extremely common and will not inhibit the functionality of your candle, just the aesthetic appeal. For this reason, we do not offer refunds or exchanges for candles containing “wet spots” and/or “frost.”
